Patrice began her legal career in the prestigious position of Law Clerk for a United States District Court Judge and later for a United States Bankruptcy Court Judge, both of the Southern District of Ohio. She garnered exceptional skills in legal research and writing and learned the Federal trial process from the Bench side of the Bar. The high standards expected by the Federal Judiciary set Patrice’s standard of practice throughout her career.
Patrice began her commercial real estate practice in Florida as Assistant General Counsel for Lincoln Property Company, one of the largest and most successful US developers. Patrice worked in the areas of financing, construction contracts, leasing and vendor contracts on major regional developments. Patrice handled lease drafting and negotiating for all projects in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. She has solid skills needed to work with large anchor tenants.
Moving to private practice in commercial and residential real estate, Patrice joined the wellrespected Fort Lauderdale firm of English, McCaughan and O’Bryan. EMO represented national and regional lending institutions in both commercial and residential lending transactions, and it represented prolific developers such as North American Company. Patrice closed scores of residential purchase and finance transactions in some of the most iconic Broward County developments such as Sea Ranch Lakes, Forest Ridge and Oakridge to name a few. She also negotiated leases for Class A high rise office spaces from both the landlord and tenant side and worked on transactions for some unique properties such as the helipad in downtown Fort Lauderdale and Jim Moran enterprise’s automobile showrooms.
When the worldwide financial crisis hit the lending and development communities, Patrice’s career turned to foreclosure law. She joined Smith Hiatt & Diaz P.A. in late 2006, and by mid-2007 was supervising much of the "First Legal" process. Patrice went on to handle judicial sales, re-foreclosures and other post-judgment actions. In 2012 Patrice changed her focus from real estate issues to the trial and post-judgment segments of foreclosure cases when she took a position as Managing Attorney for the Complaints, Service, Sales and Evictions Departments at the Law Offices of Elizabeth R. Wellborn, P.A. Patrice was responsible for up to 30 people and thousands of cases. Under her guidance and leadership, Patrice’s departments earned significant dollars of additional revenues for ERW that had not been tapped before. Additionally, Patrice was in charge of all types of post judgment motions and title curative matters including re-foreclosures.
Throughout her career, Patrice has also made time for community service. She was appointed to the Community Services Board of the City of Fort Lauderdale and became extensively involved in the Government Affairs Committee of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce where she planned, developed and coordinated a multi-week television program where municipal and county political candidates faced questions from the news media before a live audience.
